                       Welcome

Sixteen years of history hasn’t dulled the international reputation of one of the main gastronomic “icons’ of the Cook Islands, The Flame Tree.

In fact, the restaurant which is named after the giant African tree which bears its name and was, as owners Alan and Laura say, “there first”, has won the Cuisine magazine’s Restaurant of the Year title and has also been cited as being in the top 56 restaurants in the world.

The secret in the success of this restaurant lies in the integration of three important factors. The first is the absolute ambience. While capable of seating 85 people at any given time, the restaurant is subliminally settled into three areas, which creates an intimate, romantic ‘cosiness’.

This means that it is popular with both families and couples on their honeymoon, both requiring different aspects which The Flame Tree is able to meet.

The second, equally important factor is the presentation of each dish.

Regarded as being the most comprehensive menu in Rarotonga, The Flame Tree boasts a truly international flavour, so that whether European, North American, Asian or Australasian, the distinct requirements each has is taken care of. You can find everything from Kiwi lamb to fish and cream cheese gently baked in filo pastry (a dish to die for!) on this extensive menu, which while tweaked occasionally, still has the familiarity with which international travellers eagerly look forward to each year.

The third – and just as important success factor – is the enormous cellar list on offer. Again, the thrust has been to ensure that not only do all visitors have choices that they are familiar with if they choose not to experiment, The Flame Tree also believes in ensuring their patrons have a quality choice. So, to that end you won’t find house wines on any of the lists, from champagnes to young whites. Dining at The Flame Restaurant is to be regarded as a gastronomic experience, something to be savoured with each delicate texture and taste. So if you have a mind to enjoy such an experience while in the Cook Islands, don’t miss this internationally famed restaurant.

> My partner and I liked the Flame Tree so much that we ate there twice in two nights. If we had found it earlier we would've gone even more. The chicken and mushroom crepes were devine and the oriental pork spareribs were so good that we even crave them now, months later. I would definately recommend this restaurant for its great food, its good service and its pleasant relaxed atmosphere.
